This book is published to accompany Michaela Yearwood-Dan’s current exhibition The Practice of Liberation, which brings together painting, ceramics and sound in a richly detailed, multidimensional installation that explores self-knowledge, healing and the journey towards freedom.

The fully illustrated book is the first monograph on the artist’s work and includes contributions by poet Victoria Adukwei Bulley, art historian Indie A. Choudhury, exhibition curators Gemma Brace, Noelle Collins and Olivia Heron, and an interview between Michaela Yearwood-Dan and author and curator Ekow Eshun, alongside documentation of the exhibition.

Michaela Yearwood-Dan: The Practice of Liberation is co-produced by the Whitworth, The University of Manchester, Towner Eastbourne and Arnolfini in Bristol, where the exhibition will tour in 2026-27.
