Ayo Akingbade has created a limited edition print exclusively for the Whitworth to accompany her exhibition Show Me The World Mister, 3 May – 20 October 2024.
Head of Idoani Girl, 2024, is a linear portrait of a fictional girl, inspired by Akingbade’s most recent film Faluyi, shot in Ondo State in Nigeria. Originally created as a risograph, the image has been subsequently enlarged and digitally printed to the scale of a poster. The deep blue tone of the print is inspired by the indigo-dyed adire textile prominent in Yoruba culture, and the title of the exhibition is written along the paper’s border like a fabric’s selvedge. The edition was made during the artist’s residency at the Jan Van Eyck Academie in 2024. Each edition is signed and numbered by the artist.
